- All nonopioid analgesics lack dependence producing action.
- Aspirin produces analgesia by preventing sensitization of peripheral pain receptors and raising pain threshold at subcortical level.
- Prostaglandin synthesis inhibition causes prolongation of bleeding time, prolongation of labour and gastric mucosal damage but NOT prolongation of prothrombin time.
- Inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis underlie the following actions of aspirin, i.e. analgesia, closure of patent ductus arteriosus and bleeding tendency but does not underlie the hyperventilation.
